Accompanied by the guides of the library, students will discover the main stages of the long and adventurous history of the Library. It will be possible to observe closely the materials used in ancient times to produce the books, as well as some original texts.

The visits last 1 hour for primary schools and 1 hour and a half for secondary schools (5 euros per pupil).It is possible to combine laboratory activities lasting 30 minutes (adding 2 euros per pupil). Reservations are compulsory and must be made at least one week before the desired date, subject to availability.

IN THE LABORATORY OF URSICINUS

How is a book born? There is no better place to discover it than a library: and not just any, but the oldest library in the world! Children can retrace the long and adventurous history of the Capitolare and discover the laborious process with which ancient books were built. The protagonists of this journey will be sheepskins, goose feathers, insect dens, shiny minerals and other materials that, through skilful craftsmanship, were transformed into precious manuscripts.

For the secondary school of first and second grade there are two guided tours of your choice. Upon request it is also possible to customize the route based on the school program. The guided tour chosen can be combined with the workshop "In the shoes of Ursicino".

THE CAPITOLARE LIBRARY OF VERONA: OVER 1500 YEARS OF HISTORY

A journey to discover the history of the oldest library in the world still in operation today. From the Scriptorium of the origins to the current Library; in a path between manuscripts and ancient printed books, disappearances and finds, devastation and reconstructions. Some particularly significant original works will mark the reconstruction of these historical stages.

FROM OXEN TO BRA

A journey through the history of the Italian language, starting from the famous Indovinello Veronese to reach the first Italian vocabulary. It will be possible to see some ancient manuscripts and printed texts with works by Dante and Petrarch, and other less known texts to reconstruct this historical and linguistic development. For conservation reasons the manuscript containing the Indovinello Veronese cannot be displayed. Other original documents will be visible.

To the guided tour for the primary school "In the laboratory of Ursicinus" you can combine, by choice, a laboratory.

FANTASTIC ANIMALS AND HOW TO CREATE THE

Starting from some texts and images of the Capitolare, the students will discover bizarre and fabulous stories, legends and fascinating symbols about mermaids, dragons and other creatures. Participants will then be invited to unleash their imagination to give life, shape, colors and features to their own personal image creature - naria, creating a real small bestiary.

STORIES AMONG THE STAR

What are constellations? What legendary characters are they named after? What stories did the ancient peoples, fascinated by the night sky, imagine among the stars? Starting from the illustrations of some texts of the Capitolare, students will discover some ancient stories related to the world of astronomy, and then put into play their imagination in creating their own personal constellation.

The guided tour chosen for the secondary school can be combined with a workshop.

IN THE SHOES OF URSICINUS

A workshop in which students will be able to experience at first hand the work of the amanuensis with inkwells and quill pens.
